Machine I (evening)

Machine 1 Class

Limit: 6 students per class.

Due to the immense popularity of this class, we ask that you call to check and see if the class you wish to take still have space available before signing up.

Supply List: 
- 1/2 yard cotton fabric (no stripes, plaids or checks)
- 14 inch pillow form
- 16 inch polyester All Purpose
    Zipper
- Thread: general purpose, dual
    duty or sew all type thread.
- Straight pins
- Scissor

It's so nice to dress your bed up. Choose beautiful fabric to make your bed look royal, or great for children and their favorite character. Learn how to size, measure, and cut a special pillowcase. This pillowcase will have trim and hides the seams. It makes a great gift to give to someone special. (While this is a beginners class, you still need to know how to operate a sewing machine. If you do not, check out our Machine 1 class above).

Basic Sewing 1

This class teaches the basics of understanding how to purchase a pattern for your body size, how to shorten or lengthen a pattern, read and understand pattern instructions and how to construct the garment. The pattern is a simple skirt and top and all students use the same pattern in class. Supplies are to be purchased at the time of the first class.

Prerequisite : Machine 1 class or Student must know how to use basic skills on a sewing machine.

Easy Alterations

In this lecture/demo class learn how to do basic alterations of your purchased garments. The demonstrations will include machine hems on skirts and pants, hand stitched hems for fine garments, taking in a waistband, and refitting with darts.

Westalee Free Motion Ruler Classes: Quilt as you go Sampler Quilt

Leonie West has designed these amazing rulers and the ruler foot for your machine to make free motion quilting easy and precise. With the ruler foot and the Sampler Template Set 1 you can create a beautiful sampler quilt one block at a time.

Classes will be held on a monthly basis and require the purchase of the Westalee Design Ruler Foot for your machine and the Sampler Template Set 1 along with the fabrics, batting and threads.

The program will run 10 months - dates will be added once we get started.

We invite you to our Oakland Gardens location to see this quilt in person and be amazed how beautiful it is.

This beautiful quilt is a joy to stitch out. Each block is unique and you will learn new techniques each month. Quick to stitch out, the average time is about 30 minutes per block.

Embroidery machine is required with at least a 5” square embroidery area. You can make 5”, 6”, 7”, 8” or 9” blocks depending on your embroidery machine.


Dates: Mondays: 1/23, 2/20, 3/20, 4/17 (final class)
           (6:00pm – 8:30pm)


Fee:  $125 Includes embroidery designs and instructions.

For the beginner or the advanced beginner quilter, create this colorful quilt during the 5 month sessions. The lessons will take you from cutting your pieces to stitching them together into blocks and then block assembly for the entire quilt top. There will be discussion on how to layer your quilt top and quilt it for completion. Homework is required.
